2022 Medina Half Marathon and 5K

Volunteer for the 2022 Medina Half Marathon and 5K

The event starts and finishes on the Historic Medina Square, Public Square, Medina, OH 44256 on May 28 at 6:45 AM. The course runs through our beautiful city, around the crushed gravel trail of Lake Medina, through scenic neighborhoods and then runners head back up to the square. This race is being held by the Medina County Road Runners.  Our title sponsor is Summa Health. All funds are given back to local charities.  Donations can also be given under this link fundraiser section, donations can also be made through the registration process.  We are supporting the Mary Grace Foundation, Collins Cares, and the Medina County Road Runners Memorial Scholarship Fund.  We will also have all water stops supported by local non-profits that will each receive a small donation.

Our packet pick-up is the day before the event, May 27, 2022.  Please stop by and pick up your race bib and shirt.  Our expo will take place between 3:00-7:30 PM at Summa Health Medina Medical Center 3780 Medina Rd, Medina, OH 44256.  You may have your bib picked up by a friend.  We do not have a day of race pick-up.   ** We may once again offer a Thursday pick-up...we are evaluating all we learned with Covid.  Stay tuned as we plan throughout 2021.

Expo is Friday, May 27, 2022, at the Summa Health Medina Medical Center Meet outside the Summa Lake Medina Medical Center. -We will unload the UHauls and move and set up the tables following Expo Layout. -Table and water delivery will occur and we will transfer items between trucks. -Lifting and moving will be involved. We will be waiting for deliveries at times as well. Please note this is the day BEFORE the race. Expo is Friday, May 28, 2021, at the Summa Health Medina Medical Center

Set up the shirt tables, organized by color and size. There will be black shirts for the relay, competitive walk, and half marathon. The green shirts are for the 5K runners. The event is outdoors. Knowledge of the course is appreciated for this! We will have a team leader to help and answer questions. Meet at the Expo (Summa Health Lake Medina at 5:50 PM) Gather signs, tape, course maps, etc. Mark course for runners with road tape and directional signage. NO YOUNG CHILDREN PLEASE, this involves marking tape in between moving traffic. We want everyone to be safe! If you KNOW the course and want to make the course earlier in the day, let us know! We can make that happen!

Date--May 28, 2022 Meet at the Square at 5:00 AM Sharp. Depart square at 5:15 AM We will have a Uhaul---For Social Distancing---Please drive your own car or ride with a family member/quarantine friend, etc. Job-Set up water stop 1, 2, 3, 4 This year we will have cups/5 gallon jugs, bottles of water, and water refill stations. It will involve more stuff at each station but only 4 stops. Locations: Beachwood/West Wood Lake Medina@Granger Glenmoore Farms (Drop supplies at relay station) and Smokerise/Brookledge) -Set up Relay stop on Foote Road --Please note the first, 3rd, and 4th stops are in a neighborhood---please be as quiet as possible both with cars/voices. We don't need the neighbors mad! This is NOT an ideal position if you are running the half marathon. If you have a headlamp, Noxgear, etc, please dress brightly.

Date--May 28, 2022 Meet at the Square at 5 AM Sharp. Depart square at 5:15 AM We will have a Uhaul but some will need to follow in a car or truck. Job--Put up signs, set up water stop tables, unload water, cups, rakes, etc. for the various water steps. Teams are split into 2 so you will set up half the course. This is NOT an ideal position if you are running the half marathon. Dress brightly---Headlamp, Noxgear, etc.

Date--May 28, 2022 Meet at the square near the Court House. -Gather: Table, money box, pins, shirts, and set up near the timing truck. Runners that missed the day of race pick up will come and check-in with you. They will receive their shirt and bib. -Runners may stop by the table and ask to exchange shirts. Please check with the race director on when that process can begin. -BEFORE YOU LEAVE---take all shirts etc. to the tents with the medals.

Be present on the course to assist runners, follow along with the course. Please carry a cell phone. You do not have to know the course, but carefully follow posted signs and arrows to help runners correctly stay on course. We will need several at various times between 6:30 AM and 10:15 AM

5:15 AM-5:45 AM Check in with Beth, Michelle, or Jen and set up barricades at the finish line. Involves lifting and moving barricades. Barricades are green gates that will be near the timing truck.
2 Needed
We need 2 people to LEAD the course clean up. All directions will be provided, must be available to meet or for a phone call to explain. This is not difficult, but time-consuming. We have awesome regular volunteers that do this, but they must attend a graduation on race day.
6 Needed
Depart the square at 7:45 AM. Clean up water stops and the relay exchange zone. We will provide a leader for this position that will drive the Uhaul. Please follow behind in your own car. The water stop volunteers do a pretty good job of cleaning up the stops for you, we just need to load everything (Tables, empty water bottles, trash, signs, etc) into the Uhaul and Return it to the square.

May 28, 2022 Tables set up and ready for the finish line set up at 7 AM. -Set up barricades -Set up Medal/Water/Food tables -Set up tents --Bag medals/water/fruit for runners. We can't pre-bag due to water delivery, we have to wait until race morning. ------IF YOU CAN ARRIVE EARLIER WE WILL BE THERE AT 4 AM unloading Uhauls--------- Age 12+ Please. No strollers, dogs, etc.

Depart the square at 7:45 Clean up signs (mile marker/arrows/ etc) ANY SIGN YOU SEE. Please check in so we can match you with the Uhaul driver. We will have trash boxes and bagged trash on the course. Please bag it and place it in Uhaul---we have a recycle bin on the square--or any bin you pass at the schools. etc. We have a Dumpster on the square for the bagged trash etc. We will provide a leader for this position that will drive the Uhaul. Please ride in the Uhaul or follow behind in your own car. --This can be split into mile sections, etc. Someone can go ahead and do trash, bag it, etc. Perfect if you want to get your steps in that day! :) Have someone drop you off a couple of miles ahead. If a couple would "sweep" after water stops for trash, etc. We will provide gloves and trash bags. We have water bottles this year so we expect some won't wait for the trash "boxes".

Distribute bag with food, medal, and water to runners as they exit our finish line area. Due to Covid, the finish line will be much different this year. Please wear a mask. If you are unable to wear a mask, please select another volunteer position. Our local officials will be there to make sure we are following protocols. This position will be under a tent to help keep you cool. This is a rain or shine job. NO strollers, No Dogs, please leave young children with another caregiver (yes...we have had volunteers come with all 3 of these and it makes it difficult :) Thank you!

Meet at the Start/ Finish Line on Broadway. If not arriving until 9, leave time for parking! -Help clean up finish line area. -Take trash to the dumpster When the Uhauls return from course clean up we will empty the tables, dump out the water, etc as all items will be picked up by vendors between 10:30-11AM. -Help close finish line (WHEN LAST RUNNER FINISHES) by removing food, water, milk, etc.) -Pack up remaining medals, shirts, etc. -Take down medical tents, awards tents, etc.
